McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence Ribbon Cutting
McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence is one of many testaments to the generosity of The University of Winnipeg's supporters.
The project was launched by a groundbreaking $2.67 million gift from Dr. Raymond McFeetors (The Collegiate, '65; BA, '68; LLD, '07), himself a former University of Winnipeg residence dweller; and Great-West Life, of which Dr. McFeetors is Chairman of the Board.
The ribbon was cut on September 12, 2009, in a ceremony that included Dr. McFeetors, University of Winnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy; the Honourable Gord Mackintosh, Manitoba Minister of Family Services and Housing; Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews; and University of Winnipeg Foundation Capital Campaign Chairman Bob Kozminski.
McFeetors Hall provides top-notch residence living that addresses the varied housing requirements of today’s university students, many of whom have families. Twenty-five townhouses with one, two, or three bedrooms fill the first and second floors, and a total of 172 single and double bedroom suites are located on the top four floors. Healthy and affordable meal plans, two lounges with wireless internet, and a neighboring daycare are among the building’s highlights. Rent subsidies are provided to low-income tenants, and the townhouses are also available to community residents.
The Doors and Windows campaign was launched in 2008 to further supplement Dr. McFeetors' and Great-West Life’s founding gift. Led by a fundraising committee made up of volunteer alumni and headed by Honorary Chair Dr. McFeetors, the campaign has sold 52 rooms to date.
Donors can still reserve a single room for $3,000, a double room for $6,000, or a townhouse from $10,000 to $20,000. Plaques on the room doors and the McFeetors Hall donor wall commemorate the donors’ generosity.
